Action by the Serbian Police – Suspected member of The Dark Overlord arrested

Members of the Ministry of the Interior, Criminal Police Directorate, in coordination with the Special Prosecutor’s Office for High-Tech Crime, have been involved in the international police operation The Dark Overlord conducted by the US FBI in which an SS hacker was arrested (38 years old) from Belgrade. There is a reasonable suspicion that he is a member of a notorious hacker group under the same name, and during the arrest, digital equipment was found and seized in the apartment.

This hacking group has been operating since June 2016. Members of the British royal family, numerous Hollywood stars, children from wealthy American families, well-known television companies, and even American schools and clinics, have been targeted.

Namely, this hacker group has unauthorized access to computer networks and victim data and stole US citizen information and data, which include data on ownership and intellectual property, sensitive data on health insurance, treatment, and others. Then the victims were blackmailed by threatening them to publicly publish the information collected, as well as photographs, if the victim did not pay the requested money. What is unusual is that they asked for money to be paid in the virtual currency Bitcoin, which increasingly takes on a global character and covers the market. According to information, the victims paid a total amount of more than US $ 275,000.
