Police and customs officers arrested, as well as 13 other persons suspected of association for the commission of several criminal offenses

According to the order of the Prosecutor’s Office for Organized Crime, members of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Internal Control Sector, arrested six police officers of the Gradina border police station, 12 customs officials of the Customs House Dimitrovgrad, as well as 13 others for the existence of a reasonable suspicion that they committed criminal acts of association for the commission of criminal work and more crimes, accepting bribes, giving bribes and abusing the official position.

They are suspected that in the period from July 2016 to September 2017, in order to obtain material benefits, they allowed other arrested persons to enter through the state border goods whose trade was banned or restricted, that is, for merchandising goods they bring to Serbia, to avoid payment customs duties partially or completely.

Also, according to the order of the Basic Public Prosecutor’s Office in Pirot, two more police officers of the Gradina border police station and a customs official of the Dimitrovgrad Customs House were arrested for the existence of a reasonable suspicion that on August 30, 2017, they failed to execute the minimum border control to persons who joined the border crossing Gradina .

They are suspected of having performed a scan and verification of travel documents of a person who was not physically in the vehicle or at the crossing itself, while the customs official failed to collect customs duties for goods in the same vehicle, which was subsequently customs cleared found.

The suspects will be brought to the competent prosecutor’s offices with a criminal complaint.
